CostNYC answers one question: what will this actually cost me in New York City? National "average cost" articles rarely hold up here. Rents, wages, taxes, building rules and traffic all change the price of everyday services, from a dental crown to a Saturday move.
What makes our guides different
- A calculator on every guide. You pick your borough, provider type and options and get an estimate for your situation, not a single average.
- NYC-first numbers. We start from New York prices and fee schedules: congestion pricing, mansion tax, co-op alteration agreements, the 8.875% sales tax.
- Dated and reviewed. Each guide shows when it was last updated. We re-check prices at least twice a year and whenever a public fee changes.
- No paid rankings. Businesses can't pay to change an estimate or to be listed as "cheapest."
Our editorial standards
Prices come from published provider price lists, government sources, public filings and real quotes. Where sources disagree, we show a range and explain what drives it. Read the full methodology.
