The price on a breast augmentation consultation sheet is rarely the whole story. Some practices quote only the surgeon's fee. Others bundle everything. And almost nobody mentions what happens in year six, when the FDA recommends the first screening scan for silicone implants. This page covers all of it. Use the calculator for your own estimate, and tick the screening box if you're choosing silicone.
Breast surgery prices in NYC (2026)
| Procedure | Published NYC estimates, all-in | National surgeon's fee (ASPS 2024) |
|---|---|---|
| Breast augmentation | $7,500–$15,000 ($10,000–$15,000 Manhattan) | $4,575–$8,000 |
| Breast lift | ≈$14,100 average | $6,500–$11,000 |
| Breast lift with implants | $9,000–$25,000 | Not listed separately |
| Implant removal | Surgeon's fee plus OR and anesthesia | $3,650–$6,500 |
What's inside an all-in quote
| Component | What drives it | Typical share |
|---|---|---|
| Surgeon's fee | Experience, reputation, complexity | Largest single item |
| Anesthesia | Length of surgery; usually $600–$1,200 | Smallest |
| Operating room | Office suite, surgery center or hospital | Middle |
| Implants | Silicone runs about $1,000 more than saline | Middle |
When you compare practices, line these up side by side. A $7,000 quote that leaves out the operating room and implants isn't cheaper than a $12,000 quote that includes everything.
Saline or silicone?
Many patients prefer the feel of silicone. It also costs more, both on day one and later. The FDA recommends that people with silicone implants get a first ultrasound or MRI five to six years after surgery, then every two to three years. Breast MRIs cost around $2,000, and insurers often won't pay for screening. Saline doesn't need routine scans because a rupture is obvious right away.
Plan for a second surgery
The FDA classifies breast implants as non-lifetime devices. Many last 10 to 20 years, but sooner or later most people have them replaced or removed. The four FDA-approved manufacturers offer warranties that cover part of the cost if an implant ruptures, so keep your implant card and paperwork. Textured implants carry a small risk of a rare lymphoma called BIA-ALCL. Ask your surgeon which implant surface they recommend and why.
Choosing a surgeon in NYC
- Confirm certification with the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
- Ask how many augmentations the surgeon performs a year, and look at results for bodies similar to yours.
- Check where the surgery happens. Accredited office operating rooms and surgery centers are often used for augmentation and usually cost less than a hospital.
- Get the quote itemized and in writing, including what revision surgery would cost.
